Kimi has activated option for third Alfa season

Kimi Raikkonen will mark his record-breaking 323rd grand prix start with a new Alfa Romeo deal, although his team-mate’s name has not yet been penned in.
Raikkonen will remain with the Alfa Romeo team for the 2021 championship.
The publication says the Finn is ‘understood to have had an option on his side for a third season, which he had until the end of last month to activate.’
He informed the team of his ‘decision to stay at the previous race in Russia two weeks ago.’
Alfa Romeo is expected to confirm the Finn, who will be 41 later this month, as early as Friday at the Nurburging.
His team-mate, though, has to be decided.
While many reports have linked Mick Schumacher to the second Alfa Romeo seat, that decision has yet to be made.
As part of Alfa Romeo’s deal with Ferrari, it is the Scuderia who will decide whether Antonio Giovinazzi retains his drive or Schumacher is promoted.
‘Ferrari has control over the Alfa seat currently occupied by Giovinazzi,’ reports The-Race.
‘As Schumacher is a Ferrari Driver Academy protégé, the decision on Raikkonen’s team-mate appears to be down to whether Ferrari believes Giovinazzi merits a third year in F1 after an underwhelming 2020, and Schumacher represents its alternative option if it does not.’
